2009 Global Action Week: 
The BIG READ

April 20-26, 2009

In 2009, 15,000 students across Canada joined over 14 million others worldwide to take part in the BIG READ campaign.

They read stories about the importance of literacy by Canadian and international authors, and signed petitions to call upon the Canadian government to do more to support aid to education.

BIG READ Advocacy

Students, teachers and activists added their name to a petition calling on the Canadian government to provide more aid to education. Many others signed an online petition by Make Poverty History. 

On April 22, the Canadian Teachers Federation hosted its annual Parliamentary Breakfast with over 60 MPs and Senators. Students read a story by Canadian BIG READ author, Frank Edwards in four languages. Click here to see a highlight video.
