Education and Development
For individuals, education provides the tools to read, write, play and grow. It opens a door to life-long learning.
At a societal level, basic education helps prevent poverty, sickness and the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and reduces conflict.
Early childhood education stimulates physiological growth, and children who begin learning early benefit from less grade repetition and lower dropout rates and are, overall, more successful in school. They also have improved nutrition and health and improved social and emotional behaviour. Basic education for a girl increases the health and opportunities of her future children.
Education benefits the whole of society through increased economic growth and prosperity, improved quality of life and political stability and democracy. It fundamentally affects a person's physical, social, emotional, psychological and economic development.
